Ed Jones Advisors on the Move: Two More Leaps to Independence

Ed Jones Advisors on the Move: Two More Leaps to Independence

Posted by Jason Diamond

The ability to “do more” for clients without limitation is a common driver behind two recent moves that Diamond Consultants facilitated.

Mesa Point Wealth

Robert Lehrer left Ed Jones managing $120mm in client assets to launch Mesa Point Wealth in Midland, TX, with the support of platform provider Sanctuary Wealth.

In a recent press release, Robert stated,

“My desire to go independent stemmed from the need for a bigger toolbox that would allow me to accelerate growth by providing more solutions for my clients.”

An independent thinker with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Robert started in the wealth management business at Ed Jones back in 2006, building his book by literally knocking on doors. He maintains his “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach and client-centric focus to this day.

Robert valued the open architecture nature of RIAs, namely that he can evaluate and recommend the most appropriate solutions from an unlimited array of resources and partners.

While he explored other options in the independent space, Robert was drawn to the professionalism, support, structure, and culture demonstrated by Sanctuary—along with the added benefit of a presence maintained by several other existing partner firms in Texas.

Guth Financial

In an unrelated move, Ed Jones advisor Ryan Guth left the firm to launch his own independent business Guth Financial, in Albuquerque, NM, with SCF Securities, an independent broker dealer under the Atria umbrella.

Ryan shares on his firm’s website:

“Before making this move, we had to think deeply about what our clients needed but also what was holding us back. We are pleased to say that we are no longer beholden to corporate agendas and can truly place you [the clients] at the center of everything we do.”

A methodical and process-oriented thinker with a strong growth-oriented mindset, Ryan is a CFP professional who began his career in wealth management four short years ago at Ed Jones. He has achieved incredible success in a limited time window due to his grasp of markets, extroverted personality, and genuine care for the well-being of his clients.

Ryan commended Ed Jones as the ideal place to start his career but felt it no longer offered him the resources, support, or culture needed to take the “next step” and achieve the growth he desired.

This self-proclaimed “culture carrier” shared that “even in just four years at Jones, I saw a change in the culture.”

While he wanted to be independent, Ryan was interested in partnering with a firm that would help turbocharge his growth over the next several years of his career. And he was intrigued by the ability to market himself without limitation through video, podcasting, and social media.

In SCF, Ryan found a partner willing to invest in him with the resources and support needed to foster his rapid growth. He also appreciated the strength and scale associated with the Atria brand.

Diamond Consultants is pleased to have guided Robert and Ryan toward their best business lives—and looks forward to hearing more about their individual paths to success in the future.
