For Focus Financial Partners, money talks.
In new financial data unveiled in a form 10-K it filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday, the firm revealed how its typical RIA deal structure has changed in the past year.
The shift towards cash and away from equity may be a reflection of KKR and Stone Point-backed Focus Financial Partners’ new life as a publicly-traded company, explained Diamond Consultants executive vice president Louis Diamond.
‘Because it’s a public company, and now that there’s a public market valuation for the equity, most advisors and business owners would prefer an all-cash structure,’ Diamond said. ‘If they really want to buy the Focus stock, they can buy it on the public markets or buy an index fund that holds the Focus equity.’
