Dynasty Financial Partners and Diamond Consultants have partnered to offer an initiative targeting wirehouse and broker-dealer advisor teams managing $1 billion or more in client assets.

The Breakaway Investment Banking Initiative uses Dynasty’s investment banking capabilities related to mergers, acquisitions and raising capital alongside Diamond Consultants’ advisory services. The initiative will support advisors as they explore options including transitioning to independence, moving to a different wirehouse or a W2 model, and merging or selling to an established registered investment advisor, according to the Monday announcement.

As advisor teams grow and become more complex, they need advice on their capital structure, formation and plans for independence, said Sam Anderson, co-head of Dynasty’s investment banking team.

In recent years, advisors have also become more concerned with the importance of having the right financing plan and equity plans to put themselves in a good position for future acquisitions, Anderson said.

“What we’re seeing now is real demand for not just where to go and what economic package to get, but how to really plan for the future,” Anderson said.

Larger advisor teams are also becoming more aware of the path to independence and are wondering about how they can lift their team out to become an independent firm or join an existing one, said Harris Baltch, co-head of Dynasty’s investment banking team.

He added that Dynasty and Diamond Consultants saw a gap in the market for investment banking firms to help facilitate the conversation around the options that these larger advisor teams have, especially as they transition to independence.

Those teams are also concerned with their M&A strategy and what type of alternatives are available in that area, Baltch said.

This initiative comes on the heels of Dynasty and Diamond Consultants supporting OpenArc, a $129 billion breakaway team from Merrill Lynch.
