Diamond Consultants Releases Latest Advisor Transition Report: A Data-Driven Look at Industry Movements and Key Trends
Diamond Consultants has released the latest iteration of its highly anticipated Advisor Transition Report, offering an in-depth analysis of advisor movement, the factors driving firm transitions, and the evolving financial advisor landscape. This year’s report provides a comprehensive examination of why advisors are changing firms, where they are going, and how deals are shaping the industry.
Since its inception four years ago, the Advisor Transition Report has sought to answer a fundamental question: Why do advisors move? While lucrative recruiting deals remain a significant factor – particularly as firms offer aggressive revenue multiples to attract talent – the report highlights a more nuanced reality. Many advisors choose independence, for example, where transition capital is limited or even nonexistent, while others conduct due diligence without regard for financial incentives, focusing instead on the long-term benefits for their clients.
The 2025 edition continues Diamond Consultants’ mission to empower advisors with objective, data-driven insights and expert analysis. It presents a clear picture of the forces influencing advisor movement, tackling key questions such as:
- Which firms are successfully attracting and retaining advisors?
- What business models are proving most appealing?
- Why are advisors at both large brokerages and independent firms making moves?
- What are the financial incentives being offered, and how do they compare across firms?
- What were the most influential and significant transitions of the year?
The report, which covers the entirety of 2024, indicates that 9,615 advisors changed firms over the course of the year, counting only experienced advisors with a length of service greater than 3 years. Despite economic and industry headwinds, advisor movement remained relatively steady, declining by less than 1% compared to 2023, as stated in the report.
The report outlines transition deal trends, indicating that advisors are in one of “the most competitive recruiting environments” of recent times.
Additionally, the report highlights ten key takeaways of the most relevant perspectives on advisor movement and the anticipated impact of each in 2025.
Jason Diamond, Executive Vice President and Senior Consultant of Diamond Consultants, leads the project. “Like previous editions, this report is not intended to serve as an advertisement or encouragement for an advisor to make a move, nor is it intended as a promotion for any firm referenced. Rather, it’s intended as an objective resource for advisors who are curious about the seismic changes we are seeing play out in real-time in the wealth management industry,” Diamond states in the report’s introduction.
Building on the success of previous editions, the latest report incorporates reader feedback to enhance clarity and usability. Designed as a resource for all advisors – whether actively considering a transition or simply seeking to stay informed – it delivers insights into the shifting competitive landscape of the financial advisory industry.
Advisors with questions or seeking additional context are encouraged to reach out for a confidential conversation.
